Anastasia is 2 years old and she is just starting piano. Our family has been through many changes, most recently with my husband and I graduating seminary and moving to the Midwest. Now that we are more settled, I am excited to step back into a more regular rhythm of teaching, including piano and posting in our progress diary.
We will start here in January for the remainder of this school year with Prep level A weekly lessons which we receive via email.
This past week, we moved our piano and set it up in the middle of the room, with an old computer to hold our Soft Mozart station, so it is available any time of day and in a central location, as recommended. And the kids have loved it! I have found them there so many times. Here is our new setup:
Loving our time together! I am super impressed with Anastasia. I have never before this week done anything formally with her. She just turned 2 in November, about a month after I gave birth to our 3rd daughter, Evangeline, and then straight into the holidays, so we have not had much time until now to really begin. She has of course seen her sister, Elee, and brother, Titus practice some as she has grown, but I was impressed with how quickly she picked up the note names in our playing with the flashcards this week (see especially in second video).
Here is a video of us singing through the flashcards:
And another of both girls (Prep A and arranging, naming, and playing with the flashcards:
Week 2:
Anastasia also likes piano, but is not as excited as Elee. However, she is usually excited to copy Elee. So I usually have Elee go first, and though Ana might at first say no to doing soemthing, after watching Elee do it, she seems to want to. It's fun seeing her pick up note names and fingers. She is much much newer to all this (at least Elee has been exposed before, though intermittent).
Again, Anastasia is not as enthusiastic as Elee, but still does like piano, and especially likes copying her sister, so I always let her go second, and try to keep it much shorter than for Elee. Ana is getting more excited when I say it is piano time, and that is sweet to see. We are starting small, but I am so excited to see where this goes, because I have seen it before with Titus and with Elee. With each day, Ana is grasping a tad more!
