Hi Hellena,

I wanted to get started with letting you know what I’ve been doing with Cooper this past week. I have taken a few things from the academy Prep A and what was on the CD for young beginners. Please let me know if I should make any changes to what we are practicing and if I should add or subtract anything.

Week: 9th March - 15th March 2014

1. Music appreciation: We listen to Surprise Symphony’ by Joseph Haydn to start of each lesson

2. Theory: Listen to ‘Music Alphabet Song Chant 01 Track 1’ (Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-La-Ti-Do)

- He knows this very well, can say/sing it forwards and backwards. Knows which one is flipped over. Puts the cards in order in both directions and knows what each of the symbols represents.
- We then head to the keyboard where I play the octave ascending and descending and he sings along with me.

3. Finger exercises: Right hand and use each finger to play Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol. With left hand, our pinkie on the blue Do and use each finger for Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol. He struggles with this and we will just keep working on it.

4. Guess Key: 5 minutes – right hand

5. Piano Performance: Hot Cross buns – S6 – right hand only

Please let me know if there is any details you would like me to add. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

Danielle

Great! Did you try to play it? At least one hand? R1 or L1?

Wonderful! Did you try to do it from Re, Mi etc?

3. Finger exercises: Right hand and use each finger to play Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol. With left hand, our pinkie on the blue Do and use each finger for Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol. He struggles with this and we will just keep working on it.

Yes, it takes time. He is at the stage of developing finger awareness. Very important for his brain development.

4. Guess Key: 5 minutes – right hand

Is it 5 min of game time or real time? If it is game time, it is too much for his age. What is the score?

5. Piano Performance: Hot Cross buns – S6 – right hand only

What S6 means?

Hi Hellena,

Sorry about the double post, I'm not quite sure how that happened. I will keep this one opened as the attachment worked for this post.

Answers to your questions:
- The Guess key school is 5 minuets real time. He is comfortable with that amount of time.
- S6, I was trying to say screen 6 but I can see that it is actually screen 1 (the easiest/first level screen), could you tell me the correct way to tell you what screen he is looking at in Gentle Piano.
- I will aim to get him on video this week. I am due to have my baby (hopefully) this week, so I will do my best :)

Changes for week 2:
- I did not try and play Surprise Symphony, I will attempt to do that this week.
- I will also move to teaching Cooper to sing from Re to Re.

I hope you have a wonderful week and I will post his progress with the changes made above next Friday or Saturday.

Best Regards,

Danielle

Great! 5 min of the game time would be too much...

Oh. NOW I know! :) We use to indicate hands too. R1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6; L 1-6,
P 1-6. Or, if hiding notes RH 1-6 etc... 1 is easiest!

- I will aim to get him on video this week. I am due to have my baby (hopefully) this week, so I will do my best :)

Oh, my... You are a brave woman! Wish you healthy delivery!

Oh, Danielle, it is so sweet of you! However, it seems to me like I won't have weekends or holidays for a long time. Soft Mozart is a baby that needs my 24/7 attention ;)

Looking forward to working with you!

Hi Hellena,

Hope you've had a great week. We are still waiting for bubs to come, hopefully early this week :)

Week: 16th March - 22nd March 2014

1. Music appreciation: We listen to Surprise Symphony’ by Joseph Haydn to start of each lesson

2. Theory: Listen to ‘Music Alphabet Song Chant 01 Track 1’ (Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-La-Ti-Do). We also started with Re to Re with the cards and singing along on the keyboard.

3. 5 Finger exercises: Right hand and Left hand separately. He is getting much better.

4. Guess Key: 3 minutes – right hand. We reduced the time from last week, which he is much more comfortable with.

Monday - 47
Wednesday - 63
Friday - 77

5. Piano Performance: I played Surprise Symphony. Then Cooper plays Hot Cross Buns – Screen 1 – right hand, twice, and we introduced left hand on Friday, because Dad is practicing with the left hand and Cooper wanted to try.

Monday - 15/15, 16 and 14/15, 16
Wednesday - 15/15, 44 and 12/15, 37
Friday - (right) 11/15, 42 and 12/15, 28 (left) 19/22, 118

My questions for this week:
- Can you buy the musical alphabet MP3's without purchasing the physical CD? When I went to order it, the postage is more than the CD, is there anyway to get around this?

- How do you insert a photo. I'm having trouble uploading anything into this blog.

I look forward to hearing from you soon,

Best Regards,

Danielle
