Sight Reading favorite classics primer, he still makes 1-2 errors per a song when sight reading these pieces, mainly this appears to be due to trying to play too fast.

Excited for the new semester to start tomorrow. I thought I'd give an update as to what we've been working on prior to the start of a new semester.
Here is yesterdays practice and scores for my now 7 year old:

Warmup: Hannon, Chromatic scale (he has been choosing 2 exercises for warm up each day)

Practice of memorized pieces: Either Musette or Rock Group Boogie, also play Ode to Joy which is not as firmly committed to memory

Work on memorization of Robot Rock: he usually plays 3P one time and then 3PH 3 times (3P 162/164 t31, 3PH 162/164 t23, 164/164 t40, 160/164 t23)

Work on learning new song: He is learning Away with Melancholy from Simona repertoire #2 (3P 108/108 t23, 104/108 t28, 108/108 t23, 3PH 65/108 t97)

We then have been wrapping up with a few sight reading songs, just working our way through the nursery song book with 2 new songs each day: Mary had a Little lamb 5P 61/63 t59, London Bridge 45/52 t63

We definitely still have to work on sight reading more. I feel liek he can do it, but is just not as careful as he could be. We are looking forward to the structure of the new semester.

Linzy, I am impressed with numbers! Way to go!
About sight-reading: please, do not rush to P5!

He has to understand the visual connection between lines and spaces and piano keys very well first. Keep him on R2, L2 and P 2 'till he won't struggle with any note. This is very foundation of his future sight-reading progress.

Thanks Hellene, I will do that. Would you recommend staying on the nursery songs as well until he gets up to P6 with no mistakes and then moving to favorite classics primer? We've been doing R2 and L2 until no mistakes and then moving to P2, then doing P4, P5 and hopefully moving to P6. Are you suggesting he should play each sight reading song on R, L and P each day, or just going back to R, L each time you increase a level?
